There’s Nothing Better Than An Old-Fashioned Banana Split

Banana splits are beyond tasty, but there’s one problem. The ice cream melts quickly, so it’s hard to pick up a banana split and take it home. By the time you get home, it’s a melted mess. So instead of letting the ice cream melt, make a banana split at home. This old-fashioned banana split recipe is just what you need to whip up your favorite sweet treat in an instant.

Ingredients for an Old-fashioned Banana Split

This recipe includes all of your favorite banana-split ingredients. You’ll need:

  • 1 banana
  • 1 scoop each of chocolate, vanilla, and strawberry ice cream
  • 2 tablespoons each of strawberry syrup and chocolate syrup
  • 2 tablespoons of sweetened pineapple, crushed
  • Whipping cream
  • Maraschino cherries
  • Chopped walnuts or roasted peanuts

How to Make

You have the ingredients, so now it’s time to make your banana split. Start by peeling the banana. Once peeled, cut it in half lengthwise.

Then put the banana in a banana boat dish. Each half should sit on one side of the dish, so there is some space between them.

Fill that extra space with the ice cream. Put all three flavors of ice cream in a row between the two halves. Then top the vanilla ice cream with crushed pineapple. You’ll cover the strawberry ice cream with strawberry syrup and top the chocolate ice cream with chocolate syrup.

Put a scoop of whipped cream on top of each scoop of ice cream. Then place a cherry on top of each scoop of whipped cream. Finally, add the walnuts or peanuts on top of the dessert, and then start eating.

Tips For Making an Old-fashioned Banana Split

Time is of the essence when creating a banana split. Remember how the ice cream will melt if you order a banana split and take it home? The same thing can happen if you don’t move quickly enough when making it at home.

Have all of the ingredients ready before you begin. Then you can quickly top the banana with ice cream and add the other ingredients before it melts.

However, don’t get the banana ready too early. If you peel it too early, it will start to brown before you make your banana split. The best way to go about this is to peel the banana and then grab the ingredients. Then assemble the banana split.
