There’s nothing that captures the experience of enjoying nature like a horseback ride. Some may have had the pleasure of growing up around horses or enjoyed horseback rides at summer camps. For others, however, it may be a new and exciting experience.

Elite Equine Group
According to their website, Elite Equine Group is a “full-service training, boarding, lessons, and sales facility nestled on 26 acres within Garret Mountain Reservation in Woodland Park, New Jersey.”
The company offers guided trail rides on 550 acres of forest at the Garrett Mountain Equestrian Center. Trail rides are available on the weekdays and weekends. Reservations are required and it is recommended you come dressed in long pants and boots with a heel for the ride. Elite Equine Group has specially trained horses that they utilize for their trail rides so you can feel safe and secure during your experience.
If you’re looking for a unique way to celebrate your child’s birthday, consider letting Elite Equine Group host the party. Each guest of the party gets a chance to ride and brush one of the ponies. There are also special programs for Girl Scouts, Youth Groups, and Boy Scouts.
Essex Equestrian Center
Get a behind the scenes tour of what goes on at a real working horse farm with a barn tour at Essex Equestrian Center. Barn Tours are $25 per person and include barn tour, grooming, and pony instruction.
Birthday parties include a personal barn tour, grooming demonstration, party room use, and pony ride. Birthday party fees are $35 per child and Essex Equestrian Center can provide the numbers for local pizza restaurants if needed.
Essex Equestrian Center is located at 12-22 Woodland Avenue, West Orange, NJ 07052. Hours of operation are Monday through Friday from 9:00 A.M. to 8:00 P.M. and Saturday/Sunday from 9:00 A.M. to 5:00 P.M.
Stella Therapy Riding
Stella Therapy Riding is a New Jersey non-profit corporation that operates out of the North Jersey Equestrian Center in Pompton Plains. The organization offers therapeutic riding lessons during the months of September through May. Stella Riding Therapy serves students ages 6 to 65 who are on the autism spectrum along with those living with Cerebral Palsy, Depression, Anxiety, and Down’s Syndrome.
