While many may have a long weekend trip this Fourth of July, you and your family or friends can have just as much fun at home. You may even have a better time than those who go out of town as you get to enjoy all the comforts of home. Maybe your plans fell through and you are not sure how to celebrate Independence Day this year. Bass Medical Group offers some fun stay-at-home activities for July 4th.
Backyard Barbecue
What would a Fourth of July celebration be without a barbecue? This holiday invite all of your family and friends to gather at your house for a backyard barbecue. Even if you are playing host, do not feel like you have to responsible for making everything, especially if you are inviting a lot of people. While you take charge of the main course with ribs, pulled pork, hamburgers, etc., your guests can bring sides and desserts.
Splash in the Pool
As you wait for the food to cook, you and your loved ones can gather by the pool for some aquatic fun. You can play poolside games or simply work on your tan. Don’t have access to a pool? No problem! There is still plenty of water fun to enjoy at your house. Set up a slip and slide or a giant tarp. Turn on the sprinkle and let the kids glide through the water. For an extra bit of fun, you can add baby or dish soap for a super slippery slide. You can also have a water gun fight or play with water guns.
Outdoor Activities
If you want to bypass the water activities altogether or just need some other things to do, then there are plenty of outdoor activities to engage in with your friends or family. You could play a game of volleyball or badminton. Maybe a few of your friends would enjoy some competition playing cornhole or ladder toss. A few of your family members can take turns riding bikes around your neighborhood or taking stroll around the block. A couple other of your friends and family members can also play a game of cards at the patio table.
Backyard Movie Night
As day turns to night, you and your loved ones want to keep the party going. Turn your backyard into a movie theater for movie night. You can set up lawn chairs and blankets. Try to find a film that represents classic Americana. From baseball movies to films like National Treasure, there are plenty of excellent movies to showcase the great United States of America.
Bake Patriotic Desserts
Of course, you are going to want something sweet to enjoy with your movie. You and the kids could spend some time that morning before the celebration making desserts. You will definitely get bonus points from your family and friends if you bake patriotic desserts. There are cobblers, pies, trifles, and tarts that can be made with strawberries, blueberries, and whipped cream or vanilla ice cream.

Shoot Some Fireworks
After the movie and dessert, you will want to end the night with some fireworks. Make sure to do so with caution. Seeing the dazzling fireworks light up the night sky is a great way to take a moment with your family and friends to remember what Independence Day means. If you do not want all the fuss of shooting off fireworks, then you can at least let your kids light some sparklers. Just stay with them to make sure that they do not wave them around people.
