Comparison: The 2018 Honda Accord vs the 2018 Hyundai Elantra

Red 2018 Honda Accord

Comparing the 2018 Honda Accord and the 2018 Hyundai Elantra will show you that although both are popular models, one is a smarter choice for Clifton residents and anyone looking to get the best possible value on their new car.

Fuel Economy

One of the most important factors for those driving around New Jersey is fuel economy, as you don’t want to waste money every time you get stuck in a traffic jam. Most trims of the 2018 Hyundai Elantra give around *32 mpg on the highway. On the base trim, this breaks down to *28 city/37 highway/32 combined mpg. Meanwhile, the more powerful engine reduces this to *22/30/25 mpg.

By comparison, the base Accord gets *30/38/33 mpg, which is the same figure as most other trims. Those extra few miles per gallon might not seem like much, but considering you will likely drive your Accord for at least a decade, the savings will quickly add up.

Safety

There is almost no comparison of the 2018 Honda Accord and Hyundai Elantra in terms of safety. The Honda protects you at every turn with an extra set of eyes, while the Hyundai doesn’t even have a rearview camera on every trim. That’s right: The base Elantra SE doesn’t have a rearview camera, just a driver’s blind spot mirror. Although the other Elantra trims have that camera, along with Blind Spot Detection, Rear Cross-Traffic Alert, and Lane Change Assist, that still isn’t enough to keep up with the 2018 Honda Accord.

Every single 2018 Accord comes with a multi-angle rearview camera that includes dynamic guidelines and a long list of safety features. Without paying any extra, you automatically get a Collision Mitigation Braking System, Road Departure Mitigation System, Forward Collision Warning System, and Lane Departure Warning System. By comparison, you would have to opt for the very top (and most expensive) Elantra trim to even have the option to pay extra for these features. Safety is one area where the Honda has a very clear lead.

Infotainment and Features

In addition to safety technologies, the 2018 Accord has an advantage for anyone who prioritizes their infotainment systems. All Honda Accords come with at least a 7-inch touchscreen infotainment system plus a 7-inch color information display. By comparison, the base Elantra only has a 3.5-inch display. In addition, you have to upgrade to the next trim up to get a 7-inch touchscreen comparable to the Accord’s. Overall, the Honda Accord is simply better equipped. All but the base model feature 12-way power adjustment plus 4-way power-lumbar for the driver. At most, the Elantra can only have 6-way power adjustment for the driver.
