Decide to drive around town in a Honda SUV, and you will have plenty of options. All three choices, the HR-V, CR-V, and Pilot, have won numerous awards, meaning you are guaranteed to be satisfied with your safe, feature-packed, and efficient SUV. To figure out which of these three models is ideal for you, you will want to consider your budget, as well as the engine size and efficiency and the interior space of each model.
Honda SUV Pricing
As the smallest, it should come as no surprise that the Honda HR-V is the most affordable of the three models. It has a starting MSRP of just $19,215*. The CR-V is also incredibly affordable, starting at $23,745*. While the Pilot is more expensive, it is still a great price for its size and features: $30,145*.
Honda SUV Seating and Interior Space
Both the Honda HR-V and CR-V are small/compact SUVs that have seating for up to five passengers. If you have a larger family or want more versatility, then you will want to go with the Pilot and its three rows of seating for up to seven passengers. If you are concerned about the room to stretch out, compare the interior dimensions. In the first row, the Pilot has the most headroom while the CR-V has the most legroom, although all three SUVs are within 0.4 inches of each other in the second measurement. The Pilot’s lead for headroom continues in the second row, but the HR-V has the most legroom.
Cargo Capacity in Honda SUVs
As the largest, the Pilot has the biggest maximum cargo space, which should not be a surprise. Folding down the 2nd and 3rd rows in the Pilot gives you 109.2 cubic feet. The CR-V has a very impressive maximum cargo capacity of 70.9 cubic feet, but keep in mind this will leave you with only the 1st row of seats for passengers. Folding down the 2nd row in the HR-V gives you a little less room, 58.8 cubes, while there are 55.9 cubic feet behind the 2nd and 3rd rows in the Pilot. If you leave all seats upright, the CR-V will give you the most space for storage with 37.2 cubic feet. The HR-V has 24.3 cubes and the Pilot has 18.5 cubes. Keep in mind that these measurements include two rows of seating in the HR-V and CR-V but three rows in the Pilot.
Honda SUV Power and Efficiency
Finally, you will want to consider how much power you need in your Honda SUV. The 3.5-liter V6 in the Pilot provides the most output with 280 horsepower and 262 pound-feet. The CR-V has a 185-horsepower, 181-pound-foot 2.4-liter 4-cylinder. The HR-V has a 141-horsepower, 127-pound-foot 1.8-liter 4-cylinder. In addition to the having the most power, the Pilot has the largest towing capacity, up to 3,500 pounds compared to 1,500 pounds in the CR-V. While the Pilot has the most power, it also gets the worst gas mileage, a still respectable 23 mpg** combined. Both the CR-V and HR-V get 29 mpg*** combined in their base models.
